What is kilowatt (kW)?

it is a unit of electric power and is written as 'kW'. As the prefix in the name suggests that kilowatt has 1000 watts in it. Watt is smaller denomination to measure electric power as compared to kW. This converter brings an easy way to convert different measuring scales of electric power into each other.

Convert Watt, milliwatt, kilowatt, megawatt, gigawatt, decibel milliwatt, and decibel watt into each other. you just have to put in the value of power in any of the unit boxes and press enter button given in front of it to get this power value converted into all other units.

Kilowatt (symbol: kW) is a unit of electric power.

Kilowatt definition

One kilowatt (kW) is equal to 1000 watts (W):

1kW = 1000W

One kilowatt is defined as energy consumption of 1000 joules for 1 second:

1kW = 1000J / 1s

One kilowatt is equal to 1000000 milliwatts:

1kW = 1000000mW

Kilowatt examples

Example #1

What is the power consumption in kW when the energy of 30000 joules was released during 10 seconds?

Solution:

P(kW) = 30000J / 10s / 1000 = 3kW

Example #2

What is the power consumption when consuming 6kWh for 3 hours?

Solution:

P(kW) = 6kWh / 3h = 2kW

How many kW is 1kwh?

1 kWh equals 1 hour of electrical usage at the amount equal to one megawatt so the 2 kW appliance will consume 2 kWh within an hour, or one kWh over the course of a half hour. The equation is merely times x kW = kWh.
